Tottenham was founded in 1882. Throughout history the club has acquired to League titles (the latest being 1960/61), eight wins in the FA Cup (the latest in 1991) and four League Cup wins. It is also interesting that Tottenham won the first edition of the UEFA Cup (1972).

A visit to the home pub, The Bricklayers Arms, before the game is highly recommended. You can always count on the mood being high there.

Facts about White Hart Lane

White Hart Lane has a capacity of 36,420 spectators. This makes the stadium the smallest one for a top English club. The attendance record is, however, at an incredible 75,038 people. That was during an FA Cup game against Sunderland in 1938.

Tottenham was formed way back in 1882, but it wasn’t until 1899 that it moved to White Hart Lane. The club took over an old merchant’s garden and remade it into a football field. The first game was played in the same year against Notts County. The attendance is said to have been around 5,000 people.

A few years after the premiere, White Hart Lane had already undergone great changes. At the time of World War I, the stadium could handle up towards 50,000 spectators. In the 1930’s the stadium was further expanded, which allowed it to hold over 70,000 spectators. After that, the Spurs started to successively change the standing bleachers into seated stands, which shrunk the capacity. The latest change at White Hart Lane was done in 1998, when a new section was attached to the Paxton Road stand.
