About football packages with Crystal Palace

Crystal Palace, like so many of the other major British clubs, have their home grounds in London. These days, the club hasn’t exactly been a major fixture of the British top division, but are playing in the Premier League for the fifth season in a row. The team’s best placement was back in 1990/1992, when they nabbed the 3rd place. The club has plenty of successful alumni, like Nigel Martyn, Chris Coleman, Attilio Lombardo, Andrew Johnson and Ian Wright. Today, quick-footed Wilfried Zaha is one of their top players. These days, the team is known as “The Eagles”, but used to be called “The Glaziers”.

A Crystal Palace football trip is easily arranged through a specialised travel agent offering convenient packages with flights and/or accommodation and tickets to the game you want to watch. You can of course organise the trip and buy the tickets yourself. The best way to do that is through the Crystal Palace website, at the arena or by phone.

Crystal Palace Football Club was born in 1905 and started out in the second highest division, which was mainly made up of the reserve teams for the established clubs in the top division. In time, the club established itself and has been playing many seasons in the first division. They are currently playing their fifth season in a row after missing out for a few years. Crystal Palace may not have won any major trophies (other than in some of the lower divisions), but they have entered the FA Cup twice – in 1990 and in 2016. Both times, they were unfortunately forced to concede to Manchester United.

Things to do in London

London is a major city, and while you’re there, why not take the chance to experience all it has to offer? You can see world-famous sights and structures like the Tower of London, London Bridge, Buckingham Palace, the London Eye, Big Ben, the Natural History Museum and much, much more. And let’s not forget the authentic English pubs with their unrivalled atmosphere.

A Few Words About Selhurst Park

If you’re after a Premier League experience like no other, a visit to Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park is a great option. It’s a fairly small arena, but it has a great atmosphere which you can normally only find in the top division. In 2015, the Telegraph named Selhurst Park as the arena with the best atmosphere in the whole Premier League.

Selhurst Park has 25,256 seats, which might be a lot less than other team home grounds in the league. But what Crytstal Palace’s arena lacks in capacity, it makes up for in atmosphere. Here, you will find hard-core fans who have travelled far to see a tough game, offensive tackles and devoted players.

Selhurst Park’s History

Crystal Palace was formed all the way back in 1905 and played their first home games at Herne Hill Velodrome, followed by the Nest. In 1924, they moved to Selhurst Park, which has become synonymous with tough games, whole-hearted players and singing and roaring throughout the games – no matter the opposition.

But Crystal Palace haven’t always been the only team at Selhurst Park. From 1985 to 1991, the arena was also home to Charlton Athletic, and from 1991 to 2003, Wimbledon FC.

To date, Selhurst Park has only hosted one national championship, but the arena was also used during the 1948 Summer Olympics.

The most devoted fans sit on the Holmesdale stand, which can seat just over 8,000 spectators and is on the south side of the arena. More often than not, this is where the atmosphere gets going.

Transport

From the centre of London, you only have to travel 8-10 miles to reach Selhurst Park. You can take the tube from Trafalgar Square to Brockwell Park, and, from there, the train towards South Croydon to Whitworth Road. From the station, it’s less than a 10 minute walk to Selhurst Park and the lively matches.
